Norton PRIDE Launches Community Garden

Norton PRIDE was organized in the fall of 2016 following a First Impressions review of the Norton Community which reflected both positive and negative attributes of our Norton Community.   Since it's inception as a Pride Community, and part of the Kansas PRIDE program through K-State, Norton has participated in the local Strategic Planning for Norton County.  Following these sessions each year Pride designs many of its projects around those identified needs from this planning meeting. TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Governor Jeff Colyer said people looking for jobs can soon find them all in one place and with the click of a mouse. Gov. Colyer said the new Kansas Career Navigator website gives people real-time access to high-demand, high-paying jobs available locally and across the state. "We have over 50,000 open jobs and in our situation, we have jobs looking for people," said Gov. Colyer. "And the Kansas Career Navigator is going to help match those jobs with qualified Kansas workers." Governor Colyer announces communities to be designated as Opportunity Zones

TOPEKA – Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. and officials from state government agencies have completed a review of Letters of Interest submitted from communities across the state to be considered for designation as Opportunity Zones. Opportunity Zones are a new economic development tool enacted by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 designed to encourage long-term investments in low-income urban and rural communities. Based upon the number of low-income communities identified by the Federal Census, the Governor may nominate up to 74 census tracts in Kansas for designation as Opportunity Zones.
