Wild game, including pheasant, dove, deer, antelope, and coyote, is abundant for hunters and trappers.

Wichita County is a Destination for Family Fun

Wichita County is most well-known for the Wichita County Fair that takes place the first weekend in August each year.  The famous community-owned and operated carnival is packed with four days of food, fun, and entertainment. You can ride all evening for only the change in your pocket at the Wichita County Amusement Association Carnival. With all rides and games only 25¢, you’re guaranteed the best deal with the most fun!  The community is proud of the 100+ year old fair that features many long-standing traditions such as the parade, Old Settlers’ Breakfast, rodeo, and turtle race.

The Museum of the Great Plains is a great place to witness the remarkable history of the community.  The museum features the Chuck Bonner Murals. Commissioned in 2007, these three murals depict the prehistoric era of western Kansas and honors Wichita County native and paleontologist, Marion Bonner. Chuck Bonner, Marion’s son, is the artist.  Come check out the many barn quilt squares that adorn houses, barns, and businesses across Wichita County. Admire their beauty as we celebrate the history and culture of our community through a new type of “quilting.”
