Is There Anything Fun To Do in Kansas?
April 14, 2026
Somewhere along the way, rural Kansas got a bad rap.
So, we decided we’d debunk the myth that there’s nothing to do here. That it’s basic. Boring.
Which might be true… if you think charming, small towns, breweries, boutiques, coffee roasters, country ranches, local eateries, lavender farms, museums, outdoor adventures, pumpkin patches, sunflower fields, wineries, and creative arts scenes are boring.
Not to mention wide open spaces, family-friendly communities, a loyal workforce, growing industries, good paying jobs, affordable properties, and a slower pace of life that makes more room for what really matters.
Are there cool places to stay in Kansas?
In the last blog post, we started debunking the myth that Kansas is boring.
In this one, we’re giving a shout out to even more cool things to do when you’re in Western Kansas.
Ok, so now that you’ve experienced the great outdoors and gone on a culinary adventure, might as well stay awhile.
Sure, you could book a night in a hotel or a run-of-the-mill Vrbo, but why?
How about the Branded 5 Stable Bunkhouse in Hays? Truly, a place to find some peace and quiet, thanks to tranquil country roads, beautiful horses, and those Instagram-worthy Kansas sunrises and sunsets. Bonus: You’ll also enjoy the same kind of amenities you’d expect at a modern Airbnb.
There’s also the Fun Tiny Trolley in Hanston. This tiny house and fan favorite will charm the pants off of you thanks to its cozy surroundings that also includes a full-size spa shower.
History buffs will love a stay at the Historic Limestone Cabin and Loft in Ellsworth. This gorgeous, limestone building is located on a family farm that is perfect for anyone looking for a true breath of fresh air.
And if you’re looking to experience life in one of the quaintest small towns around, check out the Heartland Lodge Loft in Courtland, population 298. You’ll love the boutique, brewery, ice cream shop, and antiques lining Main Street.
Are there any cute boutiques in Kansas?
There are big box stores and then there are independently owned, unique boutiques of Western Kansas. Here are just a few.
In Belleville, you’ll find a variety of quirky home goods and farmhouse inspired furniture at The Feathered Nest.
And while you’re in that neck of the woods, pop on over to Soul Sister Ceramics. Housed in a vintage gas station, you can shop a curated collection of Kansas-made products, skincare, and clothing, paint your own pottery, and grab a scoop of hand-dipped ice cream.
At Barnwood & Bling in Colby you can find re-purposed and refurbished home decor with a signature, ranch-house flair.
The Ivory Elephant in Dodge City will tempt you out of good behavior with an irresistible collection of women’s clothing and accessories. And Kansas Earth and Sky Candle Co. in Ellinwood has hand poured soy candles inspired by the prairie.
That’s a Wrap!
We hope we’ve piqued your curiosity about everything that Kansas has to offer in our two-part blog series debunking the myth that Kansas is boring.

Ready to Make Your Move?
If you’re tired of high crime rates, exorbitant housing costs, endless traffic jams, and never being able to see the stars at night, Western Kansas might be exactly what you’re looking for.
