August 8, 2016
National Beef Packing Co. LLC on Wednesday announced a $30 million expansion at its Dodge City, Kan., operations.
The project will add box carousels, pallet-packing machines and cranes to the meatpacking plant. It will also increase the plant’s ability to handle material and boost its box storage capacity.
“Our customers increasingly require smaller box sizes and weights. This expansion will allow us to deliver on this expanding need and to do so more efficiently,” Kris Ragan, vice president and general manager of National Beef, said in the announcement.
National Beef’s Dodge City operations have about 2,900 employees, and the plant is one of the biggest beef processing sites in the country.
National Beef Packing is based in Kansas City and expanded its headquarters near Kansas City International Airport last year. The company employs 7,800 at locations in Liberal, Kan., and St. Joseph, as well as Pennsylvania and Georgia. Its revenue totaled $7.4 billion last year.
