Land Purchased for New Grocery in St. John

    May 15, 2017

Stafford County Economic Development recently purchased land for the construction of a grocery store facility on U.S. Highway 281 and Fifth Avenue in St. John. A feasibility study was conducted last fall to determine whether the old Dillons building on the Square would be suitable for another grocer. The study shows that weekly sales would be 41% higher in a bigger facility located on the major U.S. highway.

For the time being, LJ&J Automotive currently at this location will remain open until definite dates for the construction of a new grocery facility are determined. The existing building will be demolished and LJ&J will be constructing a new facility north of town on 50th Avenue and U.S. Highway 281. Auto services that were previously provided within city limits will continue at the new facility.
