Shop Local at these Unique Western Kansas Shops and Eateries this Small Business Saturday
November 20, 2023
We are celebrating all of the small businesses in Western Kansas this November 25th for Small Business Saturday. Small businesses not only offer exciting products and services, but they also add charm to communities everywhere and assist in driving local economies. How will you be observing Small Business Saturday this year?
Why Small Businesses are Important Economic Drivers
Small Business Saturday takes place annually on the Saturday after Thanksgiving when people are saying their “thank yous” and in the giving spirit. American Express founded Small Business Saturday in 2010 to encourage consumers to shop small during the holiday season. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has cosponsored the celebration since 2011 which has grown into a movement supporting small businesses.
In November of last year, American Express reported the results of its 2022 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey. The study found that Small Business Saturday drove approximately $17.9 billion in sales in 2022 and that $0.68 of every dollar spent at a U.S. small business stays within the local area. Not only do small businesses strengthen local economies, but they also generated 63 percent of new jobs from 1995 to 2021.
