Entrepreneurs Choose Kansas for their Next Big Idea

    April 11, 2024

Entrepreneurs looking for a place to launch their big ideas choose Kansas. The abundant resources and easily accessible help from the local government are making Kansas an increasingly attractive place to start a business. From free money to contests to startup loans, Western Kansas and the WKREDA make it easy for business owners to thrive.

    Resources for Entrepreneurs in Kansas

Entrepreneurs relocating to Kansas or building a business there have access to the expansive resources provided by NetWork Kansas. NetWork is a state-wide collection of non-profit business-building resources aimed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners start and grow successful businesses. Their program offers classes and boot camps to help new business owners learn how to manage their taxes, sustain a resilient business, learn digital marketing, and understand business types and terminology. Their database of businesses contains more than 600 organizations that have become a trusted resource partner with NetWork Kansas. If entrepreneurs choose to become a resource partner with NetWork Kansas, they’ll also be added to this statewide database. Being a partner means they’ll get qualified referrals, get access to exclusive funding, and network with other professionals in their industry.

For Kansas entrepreneurs who need funding to get started, StartUp Kansas has abundant resources to help. The StartUp Kansas program is designed to assist entrepreneurs in rural areas and some parts of larger, metropolitan areas. Funding rounds occur monthly, so young business owners won’t experience lengthy delays and deadlines that often accompany other government funding. These funds can be used as gap financing for a variety of purposes, including equipment, inventory, and working capital. Qualifying entrepreneurs can receive up to $45,000 per project!

Farm and food business entrepreneurs can receive additional support through the Heartland Regional Food Business Center. The organization’s mission is to make local food an easy, accessible choice, which they accomplish by connecting food businesses to the resources they need to grow. The organization helps businesses through their startup stage all the way through growth by providing supply chain connections, business planning, mentorship, and financing. Their website provides extensive resources about business development, demand and distribution, marketing, and more.

Finally, Kansas State University is sponsoring an upcoming Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge! This competition specifically serves student-created, managed, and owned ventures. The event takes place on April 16th and allows students to demonstrate their business’s market opportunity as well as their personal management skills. The Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge is prepared to award $70,000 in cash prizes to students.

There’s Something for Everyone in the Sunflower State

With a low cost of living, abundant outdoor activities, and plenty of assistance for young entrepreneurs, Kansas is quickly becoming home to innovative business owners. Entrepreneurs who choose Kansas for their next business venture will be met with the resources and funding they need to find success.
