Scott County Development Committee Seeks Economic Development Leader

    September 17, 2024

The Scott County Development Committee (SCDC) is looking for a new Executive Director of Economic Development to help plan, direct, manage, and oversee economic development in Scott County, Kansas.

The individual chosen for this important role will be responsible for promoting economic growth and spearheading initiatives that:

    • Attract quality employment
    • Revitalize the downtown area and retail sectors
    • Help improve housing and childcare availability
    • Foster entrepreneurship with youth and adults

The Executive Director is also responsible for preparing the annual budget, reviewing expenditures, reporting on financial status, and establishing a directory of financial tools to help businesses launch and expand in the area.

Working as a liaison between local government and business, industry leaders, and the media, this individual will be the key contact for promoting economic growth in the county. In fact, you’ll be the point person for communication with media outlets to field questions and inquiries about relocation and expansion of business within the county.

As the Executive Director for economic development, you’ll work closely with Scott County financial institutions to coordinate loan packages to help finance new businesses or aid in expansion. You should be a go-getter comfortable with cultivating relationships with other organizations, such as the Western Kansas Rural Economic Development Alliance (WKREDA) within the region and the rest of the state.

Position compensation includes a starting annual salary range of $50,000 - $70,000, with negotiable benefits.

Retiring current Executive Director Katie Eisenhour states, “Scott County is a thriving area which embraces cultural differences and provides an opportunity for those who possess the entrepreneurial spark to engage in a new venture.” She notes the Executive Director position is an excellent hands-on opportunity to make a difference in the community.

Scott County: Remarkable Quality of Life

With beautiful wide-open spaces, Scott County is an excellent place to live, work, and raise a family. A low cost of living combined with a high quality of life make this an ideal destination for young people, families and retirees. Some of the additional benefits of living here include:

    • #2 in agriculture production in the state
    • Less than 3% unemployment rate
    • Highly-rated schools
    • Excellent healthcare system
    • Close proximity to Historic Lake Scott State Park and Garden City

    Thriving and Growing

Scott County has experienced steady and continuous growth, evidenced by the year-over-year increased housing demand. New residents come to Scott County for good jobs in healthcare and the full spectrum of agriculture and education, the community’s largest employment sectors.  Housing development is very active in this town with a population of just over 4,000.  Support from local organizations like the SCDC, Scott Community Foundation and Scott City Area Chamber of Commerce is bolstered by a strong philanthropic behavior that results in a community that looks and feels active and thriving!
