Western Kansas Charitable Organizations Have Lit the Match to Ignite Donations on Giving Tuesday
November 4, 2024
SCCF’s (South Central Community Foundation) Match Day, the opportunity for Western Kansas to help nonprofit organizations grow their resources, is coming on December 3rd as part of a global event known as Giving Tuesday. The event is called “Match Day” because contributions to various charities made on behalf of this event are “matched” from a potential $70,000 match pool. Giving Tuesday, which takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving every year, is an opportunity for donors to make their gifts go farther than at any other time of the year. The Western Kansas Rural Economic Development Alliance (WKREDA) is proud to support the efforts of all the local participating organizations that are providing matching funds for Western Kansas on Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple concept: a day for people to do good. Since then, it’s grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
The SCCF hopes the donations received during Match Day can help the nonprofits’ current needs while the endowment fund at SCCF can make a gift to their favorite participating Match Day charities, including:
5.4.7 Arts Center
Barber County United, Inc.
Friends of Kiowa District Hospital & Manor Foundation
Hope Center of Pratt
Kingman Carnegie Library
Kiowa County Senior Center
M.T. Liggett Art Environment
Miss Kansas Scholarship Foundation, Inc
Pratt Health Foundation
Stafford County Economic Development
Stafford County Health Care Foundation
Vernon Filley Art Museum
Youth Core Ministries
The more a donor gives, the more their favorite charities receive from the existing match pool. Early bird giving started on November 1st and continues until December 2nd.
Many organizations in Western Kansas are matching
From November 1-30, the CKCF (Central Kansas Community Foundation_ is hosting their Patterson Family Match Event. Contributions during this month-long event are matched to help reach their goal of $70.000.
Another organization participating in Giving Tuesday in the Western Kansas area is the HPHF (High Plains Heritage Foundation) of Liberal, Kansas. HPHF’s Giving Tuesday is their 24-hour event that encourages everyone to contribute to Southwest Kansas and Oklahoma Panhandle nonprofit organizations through a matching program on Dec. 3, 2024. The organization’s match is $4,000.
The Western Kansas Community Foundation of Garden City, Kansas also participates in Match Day. It partners with area non-profit organizations to raise funds for the needs of those organizations now, and provides a matching contribution on those donations to benefit the agencies' endowed funds through the Foundation. The organization’s mission is to enrich western Kansas life through philanthropy, collaboration and leadership.
The Golden Belt Community Foundation of Great Bend, Kansas is also a contributor to Giving Tuesday.
Ryan Russell, Executive Director of Stafford County Economic Development says “Match Day is one of those special times of the year, when people can really make a difference in their contributions to their favorite charities. The matching of funds provides an added incentive to boost the money these charities will receive.” Find out more on how you can contribute to Giving Tuesday here.
