Make Your Move! There’s No Place Like Kansas for an Excellent Work/Life Balance
September 2, 2025
Are you tired of long commutes? Do you want to raise your kids in safe, tight-knit communities where they can ride their bikes down the street? Where you’re close enough to the action of major metros like Denver, Topeka, and Oklahoma City, but still far enough away to escape it?
Western Kansas might just be one of the country's best-kept secrets when it comes to offering an unmatched work/life balance.
And there’s no better time than during September’s Workforce Development Month to tell you more about it!
We Have Jobs!
We might be biased, but we think Western Kansas has a lot to offer…. Including jobs!
It’s one of the reasons why the Western Kansas Rural Economic Development Alliance (WKREDA) has a dedicated Workforce Committee (WC) that developed the We Have Jobs Campaign.
The WC works closely with all of our economic development offices to establish avenues to recruit, train, and retain a qualified workforce. They also train job seekers to fill our in-demand job openings across the WKREDA area, whether it's for an upcoming project or a current posting.
From freelance to full-time and everything in between (here’s looking at you, work-from-home gigs!), you can search through a list of updated job openings that run the gamut from speech pathologists to plant protection specialists.
But it doesn’t stop there! Equally as important to the WC is ensuring that area employers are aware of what competitive wages and solid benefit packages look like.
Because let’s face it, Kansas might not sound sexy as compared to the bright lights of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, but what we can offer is a lower cost of living, wide open spaces, and plenty of outdoor recreation.
Sure, we might be rural, but life here is also relaxed.
Rooted in Community
Our rural communities are rooted in a strong sense of neighborly support and welcoming atmospheres. Folks here innovate, coming up with unique business ideas to encourage commerce and the revitalization of our downtown squares.
From award-winning, independent breweries like Irrigation Ales to the caffeinated homebrews at Fresh Seven Coffee, you’d be amazed at what you can find here.
We also have the sweet fragrance of freshly cut hay, community festivals throughout the spring and summer, and special gathering places that are unique to each of our rural corners.
But they’re also located within a few hours' drive of major metros like Denver, Topeka, and Oklahoma City.
In Western Kansas, you really do get the best of both worlds!
Ready for Something More?
If you’re tired of high crime rates, exorbitant housing costs, endless traffic jams, and never being able to see the stars at night, we might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Western Kansas offers something that is, well, hard to find these days. Our communities and neighborhoods are a reminder of what life is supposed to be like, a reminder that the best things in life are meant to be savored slowly.
