Great Bend Transload Facility Construction Underway
July 19, 2016
The Great Bend Transload Facility groundbreaking event took place Wednesday, July 6 for the Great Bend Transload Facility just outside the central Kansas city, according to a news release.
To be constructed west of the Great Bend airport, the $6.8 million rail shipping facility is expected to be in service by the end of the year, the release said. Goods will be able to be moved between rail and truck at the facility, which is a public-private partnership.
“This will have great benefits for farmers and manufacturers,” Mike King, outgoing Kansas transportation secretary, said in the release. “This is a great example of a public-private partnership that will benefit not only the city but the entire region.”
Great Bend was selected for the facility in 2014 by a committee that included members of both the public and private sectors, the release said.
