    Refurbishing main street is good for the economy

    In the last few decades, malls and big box stores have brought us convenience but they've also decentralized our towns, weakening city centers. In recent years, there’s been a push to revitalize main streets, for the benefit of both business and community.

    Norton, Kansas is fortunate to have a wonderful downtown area that the National Historical Society approved as a National Historic District in 2011. There's a certain amount of prestige that comes with this designation. In addition, being on the National Historic Registry brings opportunities for entrepreneurs in the district.  Business owners who renovate approved buildings can qualify for preservation grants and/or be eligible for state and federal tax credits.
